1. How to Open a Dumpster Door
To access the interior of a dumpster equipped with a bar mechanism:
- Start by disengaging the safety catch or pin located on the dumpster’s flank. This might necessitate sliding the catch upwards and over to unlock it.
- Next, extract the chain from its designated notch and set it aside on the floor.
- Proceed to elevate the bar that secures the dumpster’s door, ensuring to steady the door to prevent it from swinging open abruptly, or alternatively, have someone assist by holding the door steady for you.
- Finally, gently push the door open to facilitate unobstructed access to the dumpster’s interior.
2. Only Throw Away Accepted Materials

- Most household waste
- Construction debris
- Yard waste
Conditionally Acceptable:
- Electronics
- Appliances
- Mattresses
Prohibited Items:
- Refrigerators
- Hot water tanks
- Tires
- Hazardous materials
3. Be Aware of Weight Limit
The maximum weight allowance, quantified in tons, defines the limit established during the arrangement of a dumpster rental.
Since landfill fees are based on weight, our goal is to align the appropriate weight limit with your project to minimize expenses.
It’s important to note that the permissible weight might not equate to the dumpster’s total volume capacity, depending on the materials disposed of.
For instance, filling a 20-yard dumpster with two cubic yards of concrete may occupy merely 10% of its spatial capacity but could exceed the weight allowance by more than 100%.
4. Don't Go Over the Fill Line
Additionally, be mindful of the maximum fill level for your dumpster.
Every container features a designated fill line that serves as a guideline.
Should the debris exceed the rim of the dumpster or items protrude beyond its edges, our collection team will be unable to transport the bin.
In the event that our driver cannot collect the overfilled bin at the scheduled pickup time, you will incur a trip charge.
5. Cover Bin When Not Using It
Whenever you’re not in the process of loading your dumpster, it’s advisable to cover it using a tarp, fastened securely with bungee cords or straps.
By covering your bin and ensuring the dumpster door is closed, you deter neighbors and passers-by from depositing items into it.
This not only helps to manage the bin’s weight but also avoids additional charges that may arise if prohibited items are disposed of in your dumpster.
6. Tips On What to Do in Bad Weather
Absorbent materials, such as dirt and carpet, can become significantly heavier when wet.
Furthermore, you might face additional fees if the contents of your dumpster freeze together or if snow accumulates around the bin’s exterior.
You’ll want to ensure that the path to your dumpster is clear to facilitate easy access for our driver at the time of pickup.
If you anticipate inclement weather while you’re cleaning up, using a tarp to cover your bin can also help prevent rain and snow from accumulating inside the dumpster and increasing its weight.
7. Avoid Additional Fees
Our dumpster rentals come with competitive, flat-rate pricing. However, additional charges can arise if our rental guidelines aren’t adhered to:
- Delivery or pickup is not possible
- Dumpster exceeds the weight limit
- Dumpster is filled incorrectly
- Pickup occurs beyond the agreed rental period
- Dumpster includes items that are not allowed
- Dumpster requires digging or towing out of snow or mud
